Flip Video MinoHD Camcorder

January 31st, 2009

I have been using the Flip MinoHD for about 5 weeks now and heartily recommend it. Not only does it take great quality 720p video, but it takes a whole hour of video without recharging.

I’ve experimented quite a bit with mine and posted a few videos onto Viddler.com. After using a Canon Powershot to take video over the last couple of years, this is a big jump for me. One thing that always bugged me about the Canon was that if I filmed directly into the sun or at a bright light or reflection it would show these huge white vertical bands in the video.

The Flip MinoHD doesn’t do this! So check out the Flip Video MinoHD Camcorder, 60 Minutes (Black) on Amazon.com (about $200 at the moment).

The Handpresso Wild

December 16th, 2008

The average customer rating on Amazon.com is 5 stars. Yeah, seriously. You can read the reviews here. This device is essentially an espresso machine on-the-go. For about $117 you get a device that can pull shots of espresso at 9 bar pressure, and doesn’t need electricity — because you pump it like a bicycle pump. Yeah, pretty cool.

CNET did a review and called it “an answered prayer.” The only little problem I see is that it uses pods. Meh. I wonder if you can get past that… it’s such a simple product, so maybe you can. Anybody have experience with that?

Spyfire R/C Blaster

December 7th, 2008

Now here’s a sweet impromptu bit of fun for the office — the Spyfire R/C Blaster from ThinkGeek.

Only $29.99! It works as a handheld device or you can detach the firing system to operate remotely (for example, from another room — the range for the remote control is 50 feet). Watch this YouTube video to see the Spyfire in action. The device holds 4 darts at a time (six are included), and can shoot up to 25 feet. Take our advice, go check it out!

Citrus-Powered Clock

November 30th, 2008

You would be crazy not to want a Citrus Powered Clock. I mean, seriously! It is powered by a lemon and it keeps time!

Unfortunately, it isn’t for sale — yet. Otherwise I’d snap one up. Designed by Florian Dussopt + Julie Girard. The wooden plank has two spikes of copper and zinc built into it. Reportedly, a single lemon will for your digital clock about one or two weeks.

iPhone Backup Battery

October 7th, 2008

Have you ever needed an extra battery for your iPhone or iPod? Or do you frequently use your battery charge before the end of the day? Then the iPhone / iPod Backup Battery might be fore you! It’s a small device you can plug into your device to get an extra charge.

Here is what one person said after buying this product:

“This thing WORKS. As an owner of a 3G iPhone & a 5th gen Video iPod, I have found that this little puppy is great. I have had difficulties with the battery hog iPhone 3G and this gizmo has completely solved the problem. It recharges the iPhone completely from about 20% power left and still has juice for another boost.”

Only $49.55 from SkyMall. Makes a great Christmas gift.

Solar Tree iPhone/Touch Charging Concept

August 31st, 2008

The ECOtality Life blog just posted this great concept product. An iPhone / iPod Touch charging station (or anything actually) with a twist — it doubles as a solar charging station and uses less electricity from the grid. Fantastic. I hope it goes from being a concept to being a product I can buy!

Recharge your cellphone and camera with this universal & usb solar-cell tree charger.

Thanks to 54 tiny photovoltaic panels this device will store energy in a battery during the day, allowing you to reload your stuff  whenever you need.

All wires are plugged and hidden under the electronic bonsai tray.

Introducing Gadgetdiver

August 23rd, 2008

The first question on your mind is likely about the name — Gadgetdiver?

My first inclination when naming a gadget blog was to include the word “gadget.” Done.

The second goal to include an interesting word that conveys the discovery process. It was at that point while watching the Olympic divers on television that I came up with Gadgetdiver. There you have it. The naming process for a blog which I hope can quickly become a guaranteed source of news about cool gadgets.

Topics will range from cameras and lenses to computer gadgets and even tools for your home. Welcome to Gadgetdiver!
